Anchor QEA is excited to kick off our Network for Engineering With Nature (NEWN) takeover week by spotlighting our longstanding collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and its innovation arm, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), to support the Engineering With Nature (EWN) Initiative.
Through this partnership, we have worked with ERDC to conduct applied research related to natural infrastructure (NI) and nature-based solutions (NBS), as well as beneficial use (BU) of sediments. Anchor QEA has provided technical guidance to USACE Districts and the public on the use of sustainable practices through the integration of engineering and natural systems. Together, we’ve developed technically competent, high-quality guidance, manuals, and publications that advance NBS and broaden the impact of NI across the nation and beyond!
Take a look at recent and upcoming publications resulting from this important partnership:
Four Coasts Project Innovation Handbook (Coming 2025)
This compendium is a visual summary of NI/NBS project concepts from the USACE San Francisco, Mobile, Philadelphia, and Great Lakes Districts. It will include innovative EWN projects incorporating identified natural and nature-based features best practices and conceptualized preliminary concepts substantiated by modeling.
Engineering With Nature: An Atlas, Volume 3 (2024)
ERDC’s flagship reference features NI/NBS/BU projects and key lessons to inspire and guide future efforts. Highlighting constructed EWN projects from around the world, the Atlas features practical case studies around the four key elements of the EWN approach.
