Learning from The N-EWN National Practice Forum

In February, the Center for Coastal Climate Resilience (CCCR) co-sponsored the National Practice Forum on Nature-Based Solutions in Irvine, alongside the Network for Engineering With Nature (N-EWN), and National Academy of Sciences (NAS). More than 500 participants from across the country came together to discuss how ecosystems can reduce disaster risks and protect communities. Check below for a re-cap from the 2025 meeting.

The energy and ideas shared underscored the urgency of scaling up nature-based solutions as a core part of our climate resilience toolkit. Leaders spoke about:

  • Nature-based solutions: Working with nature to reduce risks and costs.
  • Climate: Understanding and communicating the growing costs to society and developing adaptation projects.
  • Reducing Vulnerability: Working together with marginalized communities.

This is a critical time to draw on this incredible expertise and enhance partnerships. Together, we can work to reduce and adapt to growing risks.

Stay tuned for announcements about the next National NBS Forum which will be led by the National Academy of Sciences Gulf Research Program- coming Spring 2026!
