As of spring 2025, we have 37 of the coolest organizations in the country as N-EWN partners—and they have even cooler things to say. Starting this spring, we’re going to hand the mic directly to each of our amazing partners.
Introducing Partner Takeovers, where our social media and news stories will be run by a different partner for an entire week. We’re excited for the opportunity to better represent the N-EWN partners, and to give them the chance to communicate directly with each of you!
This week, we’re starting with one of our founding partners, the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems at the University of Georgia (UGA IRIS).
IRIS is a founding partner of the Network for Engineering With Nature, which was created in 2019 through a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineering With Nature® initiative. The dream began when Todd Bridges, who spent 17 years as the U.S. Army’s Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science and formed EWN®, met Brian Bledsoe, IRIS’s director. They brought together a team of talented researchers and practitioners from their organizations to accelerate the practice of Engineering With Nature nationwide.
IRIS members involved with N-EWN come from across campus: not just Engineering, but the Odum School of Ecology, College of Environment + Design, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, College of Agricultural and Environmental Science, Franklin Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Department of Geography, and more.
Our researchers work to leverage natural infrastructure to strengthen community resilience, create models and dashboards that allow designers to map out how natural infrastructure can provide more benefits to society, and inspire a new generation of engineers, ecologists and social scientists to utilize natural infrastructure through education and workforce development.
Stay tuned for this week’s content from UGA, and follow along to meet the rest of our amazing partners!
