In September, the CCCR co-hosted a symposium on Communicating Climate Solutions at UC Santa Cruz alongside our colleagues in the UCSC Science Communications program. Over three days, scientists, journalists, government officials, Indigenous leaders, community members, and more were able to learn and share expertise, build community, and identify new opportunities in communicating climate solutions.

From virtual reality to climate-themed games, immersive 3D visualizations, art installations, and sensor networks, participants showcased innovative approaches to make climate data resonate in people’s hearts and minds. Participants left feeling inspired and better equipped to communicate in ways that encourage climate action.
Communicating climate research so it connects beyond scientific audiences can be challenging. That’s why communications is one of our strategic focus areas. The tools and strategies that researchers presented at the symposium help transform complex research into tangible experiences that inspire collective understanding and action.
