We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new Professor of Practice at IRIS, Dr. Ram Mohan!
A fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Dr. Mohan will establish and lead the Sustainable Sediment Management Hub at IRIS. He joins us as a Senior Partner directing our collaborator Anchor QEA’s Nature Based Solutions and Coastal Practice. For over 30 years, he has applied his unique expertise to develop innovative solutions to complex coastal issues including coastal flooding, beneficial use of dredged material, estuarine hydrodynamics, and coastal resilience.
We’re excited to welcome not only his practical experience as a coastal engineer, but his decades of technical expertise. Previously serving as an adjunct professor (and director of the GLDD coastal and dredging laboratory) at Texas A&M University, Dr. Mohan has years of experience instructing courses on various topics in marine dredging, nature based solutions and coastal engineering. He has authored over 250 publications, was the founding editor for WEDA’s Journal of Dredging Engineering, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Marine Environmental Engineering from 2016-2021. A former President of the Western Dredging Association (WEDA), and a former member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Ocean Studies Board and Marine Board, Dr. Mohan now sits on the Environmental Advisory Board (Subcommittee) of the Army Science Board.
“Dr. Mohan is an internationally recognized leader in coastal engineering, sustainable sediment management, and nature-based solutions in the public and private sectors. He also has a well-deserved reputation as a great collaborator,” said Brian Bledsoe, IRIS Director. “We are thrilled to have him formally join the IRIS team.”
