Partner Takeover: Stantec

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on our partner, Stantec.

Stantec is a leader in nature-based solutions (NbS), which combine natural systems with traditional engineering. Incorporating features like bioswales, wetlands, and coastal restoration, NbS solutions help improve resilience for people, environments, and infrastructure. These strategies address climate risks such as rising temperatures, droughts, water quality, flooding, wildfires, and sea-level rise. These approaches also support carbon storage and contribute to social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Stantec’s NbS strategies support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net zero carbon targets. Their technical work covers different NbS applications, including flood risk reduction, water filtration, and coastal protection.

Progress in this area is supported by collaboration with the Network for Engineering with Nature (N-EWN). N-EWN connects researchers, practitioners, and educators to advance Engineering with Nature ideas. This partnership helps apply natural solutions to climate resilience projects and supports national executive orders.

Through events, workshops, and joint projects such as the EWN Podcast, Stantec and N-EWN contribute to sustainable infrastructure. Their work includes presentations on funding, benefit-cost analysis, international partnerships, and applying EWN ideas to military sites. Stantec and N-EWN use natural solutions to protect infrastructure and natural resources and develop responses to climate change for future communities.
