This month, our partners’ podcasts looked backwards and forwards at resilience practices!
The Resilient Futures Podcast – Expect the Unexpected: Resilience and Life Advice from the Late Bronze Age
On the Resilient Futures Podcast, produced by the University of Georgia’s Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems, hosts Alysha Helmrich and Todd Bridges welcomed anthropologist and historian Dr. Eric Cline and USACE research social scientist Dr. Ben Trump to discuss civilization collapse in the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1200 B.C.). Listen to learn more about what these researchers describe as a “poly-crisis,” and how we can learn from it today to be more resilient to environmental, economic and social disturbances, and how recovery from collapse takes place.
The Engineering With Nature Podcast – 3D Printing Nature-Inspired Infrastructure: The Future is Upon Us!
Moving forward, the Engineering With Nature Podcast welcomed Alan Kennedy, Burton Suedel, and Andrew McQueen to discuss their February workshop exploring nature-inspired 3D printing. The group explored the possibility of using natural materials dredged from waterways, like silt and clay, to make nature-inspired 3D printed structures like reefs and roots to restore habitat and protect coastal shorelines. The episode also includes clips from 11 workshop participants, researchers, and practitioners who share their insights about the tremendous potential for 3D printing of nature-inspired infrastructure (NII) using natural materials.
