LimnoTech is proud to partner with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA), the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, the City of Austin, and other partners on the transformation of Waller Creek into the vibrant Waterloo Greenway—a continuous chain of parks and restored waterways through downtown Austin.
This ambitious effort is more than placemaking — it’s a living example of Engineering With Nature (EWN) principles and nature-based solutions (NBS) in action. The team has worked together to reimagine a highly urbanized creek into a resilient, living system that:
- Restores hydrologic and ecological connectivity
- Incorporates riparian wetlands, pool-riffle sequences, and aquatic organism passage structures to support native ecosystems
- Improves water quality and channel stability using natural processes
- Integrates stormwater management features
- Enhances community access and fosters environmental education through public spaces

This multi-phase effort brings together engineers, landscape architects, city planners, and community partners with a shared goal: to create a sustainable and resilient urban waterway that delivers ecological, social, and cultural value. At its completion, the result will be a restored creek corridor — the Waterloo Greenway — that strengthens Austin’s connection to nature, builds climate resilience, and celebrates the community.
