The Western Dredging Association (WEDA) is excited to host their 2024 Dredging Summit & Expo in Tampa, Florida, an event that will include technical panels, over 110 exhibitors, and a number of short courses. One of these short courses is being organized by UGA’s Todd Bridges, as well as Jeff King from USACE’s Engineering With Nature® initiative and Ram Mohan from Anchor QEA, a design and engineering firm that focuses on nearshore and aquatic-based infrastructure.
The short course this team is presenting will focus on the use of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to support risk management, hazard mitigation, sustainable infrastructure and resilient communities in the field of construction and engineering. On the agenda are sessions about every step of the engineering process, from design and valuation to case studies of real projects and best practices for continuing management.
WEDA’s theme for their 2024 Summit is “Building a Resilient Future.” This short course will provide attendees with 8 Professional Development Hours in addition to a greater understanding of the world of NbS in engineering and construction.
“The White House has stimulated numerous NbS initiatives and actions across the federal government, including development of a Roadmap on NbS,” the course description states. “This short course will introduce NbS, present emerging best practice for NbS engineering and construction, and share practical case examples of field-scale NbS projects in coastal and riverine systems.”
The course will take place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 27th, the last day of the Summit. Participants from government agencies, private sector, non-profits, academia, and more are welcome. A draft agenda is available here.
