We held our monthly partners meeting on Wednesday, June 12, welcoming Tim Stephens from Dynamic Solutions LLC to talk about oyster metapopulation modeling for restoration efforts in Louisiana.
In partnership with an interdisciplinary team from public, private and academic institutions, Dynamic Solutions is developing a mechanistic oyster metapopulation model that simulates larval and oyster reef dynamics. The model works on wide temporal and spatial scales, able to look from seconds to decades and single reefs to entire coastal basins. The goal of the tool is to inform management decisions for restoration efforts.
From Dynamic Solutions’ website: “Mr. Stephens is a Civil Engineer with 10 years of experience in water resources. He has conducted 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling, sediment transport modeling, preparation of construction plans and specifications, environmental restoration design, and flood risk analysis in the southeast U.S. He has experience implementing HEC-RAS and has developed a tool for implementing HEC-RAS in Monte-Carlo simulations capable of simultaneously accounting for uncertainty in discharge, friction parameters, and geomorphic adjustment. He has received training implementing ADH.”
We also began a group discussion reviewing the recent Advisory Committee meeting and our first Partner Symposium, which were held last month in St. Augustine, FL. Learn more about the Symposium here.
