H2Ohio: Earth Economics and The Nature Conservancy partner to promote investments that protect Ohio wetlands

Every $1 invested in restoring Ohio wetlands returns $8 in value to the public.

That’s how Glen Delaney, Director of Partnerships at our partner Earth Economics, pitches the new report created in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (also a N-EWN partner). H2Ohio is a state program focused on reducing harmful algal blooms through wetland restoration projects, in turn providing clean water, flood protection and recreation benefits to the state.

”We hope to equip other agencies and organizations with the robust, defensible, and applicable information needed to inform decision-makers about the benefits of wetland protection,” reads Earth Economics’ press release on the report.

Through their research and analysis process, Earth Economics reports:

  • $300 million in annual benefits over 11,000+ acres across Ohio
  • Over 270 jobs supported, with over $17 million in wages
  • $48 million in total economic activity annually spurred by the program

“H2Ohio has produced an outstanding return on investment for the people of Ohio, along with cleaner water for millions and real economic benefits for the state,” said Mary Turocy, director of policy and government relations for The Nature Conservancy in Ohio.
