Stantec project highlight: Using modern technology and collaboration to uncover the sunken USS Monitor

For over 150 years, the U.S. Navy’s first ironclad warship, the USS Monitor, rested off the coast of North Carolina. It wasn’t until 2025, when Stantec partnered up with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Northrop Grumman, and SEARCH to survey the wreck off the coast of Cape Hatteras, that high-resolution sonar imagery helped reveal new details of the historic shipwreck while supporting efforts to better understand and conserve the site.
