Stantec Delivers Engineering with Nature Across the Globe

This week, we’re highlighting our partner, Stantec, and their work in nature-based solutions (NbS). Stantec combines natural systems with engineering to help reduce risk and build resilience. Using strategies such as bioswales, wetlands, coastal restoration, and green infrastructure, NbS can help address biodiversity loss, flood and drought mitigation, water quality and scarcity while supporting carbon storage and lasting community value.

About NbS at Stantec

Stantec’s NbS work supports corporate sustainability objectives, UN Sustainable Development Goals, and carbon sequestration targets. Their global project portfolio spans many sectors including transportation, community development, oil and gas, energy, and commercial/manufacturing to name a few. Core service offerings include, but are not limited to:

  • Ecosystem restoration
  • Coastal and marine solutions
  • Wetland and stream mitigation crediting
  • Natural capital valuation
  • Biodiversity net positive/crediting
  • Grant-based project development and implementation
  • Nature-based climate solutions (including carbon sequestration)
  • About Stantec’s partnership with N-EWN

This work is strengthened through Stantec’s partnership with the Network for Engineering with Nature (N-EWN). Together, they connect research, practice, and education to bring natural and engineered systems together in support of resilient infrastructure, healthier ecosystems, and practical learning. Through events, workshops, podcasts, and presentations, they share insight on funding, benefit-cost analysis, partnerships, and applying NbS in real projects.

Follow along the next few days as we explore how Stantec is combining engineering and natural systems to address complex challenges, from ecosystem restoration and nature finance to environmental DNA (eDNA) and science-driven approaches to resilience.
