Please join the Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) on LinkedIn on Wednesday, April 3 at 10 a.m. CT for the next ERDC Live. The event will feature Drs. Jeff King and Amanda Tritinger from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering With Nature® program, an innovative nature-based research program that was fostered at ERDC and has grown to become an initiative with global reach.
Now approaching its 15th year, EWN has revolutionized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE, presenting a shift toward integrating natural elements into engineered design solutions for maximum benefit, operational efficiency and sustainability. Today, the program is a major partner with the Department of Defense, and a surge of both Congressional and White House support has amplified the program and the importance of nature-based engineering solutions. EWN has transitioned from a conceptual framework to a widespread movement. It informs policy, practice and research, driving the adoption of nature-based solutions for infrastructure development and contributing to a more resilient, sustainable and collaborative future.
Dr. King is EWN’s national lead, and his research focus is on integrating EWN techniques into traditional infrastructure, harnessing the environmental power of nature and nature-based structures, and fostering and growing EWN’s partnerships across the world.
Dr. Tritinger is a research hydraulic engineer, specializing in coastal engineering and numerical modeling. Through her work with EWN and ERDC’s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, she has dedicated her research to creating a more resilient future for our nation’s coastal communities and expanding EWN’s research collaborations.
