Moffatt & Nichol, an international firm with more than 1,000 personnel, is currently ranked first by the Engineering News Record in Marine and Port Facilities. The firm has long been associated with and respected for work in coastal engineering including shore protection, beach nourishment, coastal processes, living shorelines, aquatic habitat restoration, coastal inlet projects and more recently coastal storm damage reduction and risk management for federal, state, and local agencies, particularly the USACE. Moffatt & Nichol offers a full-time staff of more than 300 marine and coastal engineers, including more than 75 coastal/estuarine and hydraulic engineers/scientists.
Moffatt & Nichol has completed projects ranging from conceptual planning through final design, permitting, construction, and monitoring for more than 10,000 projects in the United States and around the world. These projects have required the use of state-of-the-art technologies to solve complex problems, but, more importantly, the firm emphasizes a practical approach to engineering that incorporates resilience goals provided best by nature-based solutions and natural project features.

Barataria Marsh Creation
This large-scale project consists of the beneficial use of 10M cubic yards of sand dredges from the Mississippi River to create approximately 1,200 acres of marsh.
A Master Plan for Beach Nourishment in Bogue Banks
Development of a 50-year master plan for beach and dune enhancement for a 26-mile stretch of shoreline.
Lightning Point Living Shoreline
Low-sill segmented breakwaters and beneficial use of sediment to create a living shoreline project to mitigate shoreline loss and create ecological services.
